Bunjil And Waa Stop Motion

Bunjil and Waa are part of mythology of some Aboriginal people in Victoria. In this learning experience children turned one of Bunjil and Waa's story into a stop motion movie.

Materials/Tools

  • Bunjil and Waa puppets

  • Blue chiffon for the river

  • Rocks, stones and moss

  • Black texta

  • Gumnuts, leaves and wooden sticks

The puppets were part of a teaching aid package from the department of education and the rest of materials were collected by children as they brainstormed to set up a scene for their short movie.

Resources

  • An iPad

  • The application 'Stop Motion Studio'

  • The story card of Bunjil and Waa (click here)

By providing children with a smart device and this child friendly application, they can enjoy being creative. The story of Bunjil and Waa was a provocation for the children to make their first stop motion movie; however, children slightly changed the story which demonstrates their creativity.
